连词
  • 并列连词:连接两个对等子句,构成合句;
  • 从属连词:引导从属从句,与主句构成复句;
常用的并列连词
  • and;
  • or;
  • but;
主语
  • 主语部分可通过并列连词放进两个以上的名词短语;
George and Mary were good friends.
// 三个以上, 只在最后一个使用, 其余使用 ,
George, Mary, and Jane were always together.
谓语
We always worked and played together.
// 三个以上, 只在最后一个使用, 其余使用 ,
We ran, jumped, and shouted for joy
宾语
The sumo-wrestler is overweight but very agile.

形容词
  • 若多个形容词修饰的为不同层面,直接并列;
  • 若多个形容词修饰的为同一层面,使用并列连词;
// 不同层面, 不需要并列连词
One day, the big bad wolf came to the cottage.
// 同一层面, 需要并列连词
I saw a black and white cat on the wall.
副词
  • 若副词修饰另一个副词,直接并列;
  • 若多个副词修饰同一个对象,使用并列连词;
// very 修饰 quickly, 不需要并列连词
He spoke very quickly.
// quickly 和 clearly 共同修饰 spoke, 需要并列连词
He spoke quickly but clearly.

并列连词的对称要求

  • 并列连词连接的部分必须对称;
// 前为形容词, 后为名词, 错误
War is destructive, wasteful, and ultimately a futile deed.
// 修改
War is destructive, wasteful, and ultimately futile.
